HOW IT ALL BEGAN..
Lucy and Jason met at Central St. Martin's College of Art in 1994 where they were studying for a BA (Hons) in Industrial Ceramic Design. As both were working with the translucent qualities of illuminated porcelain, each was inspired by the other's different approach to research. Having been commissioned to produce a full range of lighting for a London loft conversion, they found their first project on the front cover of the Independent's Saturday Interiors supplement. A demand for their lights developed and Diffuse was set up in 1998.

Both the formula and method of producing slip-cast porcelain have been adapted and refined to create a material and an effect exclusive to Diffuse.

The subtle and flattering light cast by Diffuse's fine unglazed porcelain lamps is practical and functional, whilst at the same time being soft and warm, thus creating a calm ambience in any interior.

Lucy was awarded Young Designer of the Year 2004/5 in the Classic Design Awards for the Halo table lamp at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

As well as the stock lamps shown on this website, Diffuse also create one-off bespoke designs. Working in liason with interior designers and architects worldwide, the Diffuse design studio has created custom designs for major projects as far afield as Japan, Czech Republic and the USA.
